Austin, You Are Always on My Mind

Visited some very cool people this week on a 24-hour, kid-free jaunt to Austin, TX:

Willie - outside the Moody Theater, home of Austin City Limits

An SRV sunrise over Lady Bird Lake (Stevie Ray Vaughan)

Played around at the new W Hotel, in this very fun bar called the Records Room, which boasts over 8,000 vinyl records from a variety of artists.  It was here that I gleefully reunited with an old love from the 80s:

Me and Paul Young ("Everytime You Go Away")

Also partied like it was 1995 for the "Last Summer on Earth" show at the new Moody Theater, featuring Barenaked Ladies, Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd and Cracker.  Don't have any pics of that because I was too busy avoiding spilled drinks and being trampled to death by some riff-raff in General Admission.

All in all, it was a lovely getaway, and I was sorry to say goodbye to my view of Lady Bird Lake.  Austin will always have a special little spot in my heart.

Linking up with Greta and Julie for #iPPP, the best phone photos of the week!

    1. We ended up moving to the very back of the floor, out of the riff raff, and we still had a great view. So, it turned out OK! Love that 90s music!

    1. Yep, that's where I met my husband, when we were both in school there. Although I ended up transferring to SMU b/c Austin was a little too distracting for me :)

  6. I’ve never been to Texas, which is funny because I have so many online friends who live there. My husband was there as well as Dallas and Houston on business a few years ago and had great things to say about all 3 cities and Texas in general. I’m so eager to visit!

My adopted town of Portland (I’m originally from Chicago) “borrowed” (sounds so much nicer than “stole” --LOL) Austin’s slogan “Keep Austin Weird” – just substitute Portland for Austin. The slogan most definitely fits. We have a weird and wonderful town, and I’ve heard Austin is too.

Happy to discover your blog and I’m your newest follower. :D

    1. Thank you, Susan, so glad you found me! I think there are many similarities between Austin and Portland, and I hope you can visit Texas someday! I have always wanted to visit Portland, too.
